Traveling in Ireland with young kids?

We will be traveling out to Ireland from Chicago at the end of June with 2 small children (ages 2 and 5). We will be there for 5 nights en route to Croatia. We plan to spend the first 2 days/2 nights, and the last night in Dublin just to make it easy on the kids. We want to go somewhere else for those 3 days and 2 nights in between, via train. I am looking at Galway and the Eastern Counties (like Wicklow), but am open to anything no more than 2 hours away by train. What would ya'll suggest? We can't pack in too much or the kids go loco, but we want to see some of the rest of the country!

Eastern Counties. Galway is a bit too far. You can get a day family ticket for the DART and hop on and off or return to base if the kids get tired. It costs [I think] €15 for 2 adults and the kids - 1 only as the 2yo will be free on public transport anyway. Sealife in Bray [40min train ride by DART] is a good place to bring kids. Also Dublin Zoo [but not on the train line - LUAS to Heuston instead].

Loads of walkable history in Kilkenny, easily accessible by train. There is a children's playground in the Castle park. In fact you will find playgrounds for young children in many places.
