Are we crazy?

Our travel agent booked us a flight that arrives in Shannon at 18:25, but our hotel is in Killarney. Is it realistic for us to grab our rental car and drive this route when we've never been to Ireland? Any suggestions?

" Any suggestions?"

Fire the travel agent. But first make sure they cancel the hotel in Killarney for that night.:)

Suggestions:

Stay the night near Shannon airport at Oakwood Arms and then drive to Killarney the next day.

Then stop using travel agents.

My fear is what else your "Travel agent" is making commission on? Yes for a local Killarney is easy from Shannon but somewhere between Ennis and Adare would be a recommended area within an Hour of the Airport.

I love the Oakwood but for Departure and an early night, on arrival possibly not? Personally I prefer a few more options than Shannon town or Bunratty have to offer.

An18.25 Arrival is not Transatlantic though, so where are you coming in from ?

You are going to be in London. What your travel agent SHOULD have done is put you on a flight to Kerry International Airport from Stanstead.

However, you will not be jet lagged and the road to Killarney is fairly straightforward from Shannon. There are detailed instructions here routes.aaireland.ie It will take you just shy of 2 hours. But the roads will be fairly quiet at that time. Just make sure you take the Shannon Tunnel (toll €1.90 one way).

When is this happening, if its over the next few months it will be fine, otherwise you could be doing it in the dark.

Then you should have no problem getting to your reservation in Killarney, just follow the driving instructions given above.

Edinburgh is fine. And in July it will be lovely and bright. Just drive straight down.

Shannon should be very quiet at that time as well so you should be on the road 30 minutes or so after you arrive.
