Ireland Itinerary for honeymoon

Hi all! My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon in Ireland for early August. We've been trying to set our itinerary and could use some help/advice. We fly into Dublin at 9am on the 6th, are renting a car, and are flying out of Dublin on the 12th.

Here is our plan so far:

Tues the 6th: Fly into Dublin, pick up rental car, drive to Kilkenny (where staying overnight), visit Rock of Cashel, explore Kilkenny

Wed the 7th: Visit Waterford & do crystal tour, explore a bit, drive to Kinsale, explore & stay overnight in Kinsale

Thurs the 8th: see Blarney Stone en route to Killarney, visit Muckross House & Farm, drive to Kenmare

Fri the 9th: Ring of Kerry. Not sure where to stay this night...maybe Tralee? Is it too much to do Ring of Kerry and Dingle Peninsula in 1 day?

Sat the 10th: Cliffs of Moher, drive to Galway, explore Galway & stay overnight there

Sun the 11th: Drive to Dublin in the morning, explore Dublin (Trinity College, Guiness tour, Dublin Castle), stay overnight in Dublin

Mon the 12th: Fly out of Dublin in the morning

Are we crazy for trying to fit all of this stuff in such a short amount of time? We are both young (mid 20s) and are trying to get the most out of our trip. We are very open to any suggestions/rearrangements of our trip. We were kind of hoping that we would have some down time to explore towns and enjoy being married now, but it seems like we won't have time with our itinerary. Our "must sees" include Dublin, Ring of Kerry and/or Dingle Peninsula, Cliffs of Moher. My fiancé really wanted to see the Waterford Crystal tour as well (he has always wanted to learn to blow glass for some reason), but we are still deciding if that is a "must see". Can you offer any advice?

Ring of Kerry and Dingle in one day is not practical

Yeah, kind of. :)

"We were kind of hoping that we would have some down time to explore towns and enjoy being married now, but it seems like we won't have time with our itinerary. "

That's correct.

You really have 5 days. You can't see half of Ireland in 5 days. You need to decide what kind of trip you want. You can drive everywhere all day every day, rushing place to place and "checking the box" that you saw things. Or you can relax and enjoy the country, and each other, and see half the things on your list.

Take a day in Dublin to relax on arrival. If one of you "really wants to see" the Waterford factory, that makes it a "must see" for you.

Why not fly into Shannon? It seems that you can save yourself the need to cut back across the entire country.

Thank you so much for the replies! We really appreciate the honesty! We've talked about what we really want to get out of this trip & it's basically to see the beautiful countryside & a few castles. Our must-sees are Rock of Cashel, Dingle Peninsula, and Cliffs of Moher. We decided to cut out Ring of Kerry since it is similar to Dingle Peninsula, but basically takes an entire day away (and we don't have many in Ireland). If we can fit in the Waterford Crystal tour we will, but it is not a must-see.

Flying into/out of Shannon would be a good option, but we already booked our flights (and to save money we bought non-refundable flights), so maybe next time :-)

Are there any other places you guys would recommend (not in Northern Ireland) that you think are "classic Ireland." We really want to be able to experience Ireland & not just go to all the touristy places...we love greenery & small cute little towns/roads...anything with character.

Unfortunately, IMHO, you are not going to have any time to see "cute little towns /roads" because you will be too busy driving from town to town in 5 days. Your plan is one that the Irish experts usually recommend for a two week stay.

Hi and congratulations on your engagement!

If your fiancé is interested in glass you might like to visit Jerpoint Glass in Co Kilkenny, which might be easier to fit into your schedule.

If you are going to Dingle, and have an interest in crystal, vist Dingle Crystal in Green Street. The owner carves on the premises, and he was previously a master cutter at Waterford.
