Backpacking over christmas

Hi,

My best friend and are planning on going backpacking to Ireland, Scotland and Wales over our Christmas break while we on exchange in England. We are 19 and from Australia.

We were wondering where would be the best place to celebrate Christmas and party on new Years...we were thinking good Irish pubs.

Pubs will be closed on Christmas Day. Christmas in Ireland is very much a family day. Pubs will be open on the 24th and 26th. But you'd need to find some place to stay AND to eat on the 25th.

Transport, also, will shut down on the 25th. And many accommodations will be closed, those that are open will usually charge a significantly higher premium.

You do realise that it will be cold, probably wet, probably miserable, and dark for 16 hours a day? At Xmas it gets light around 8am and dark by 4pm at the latest. Worse in Scotland, not a good time for backpacking.
