Dromoland to Sheen Falls - Time for Ring of Kerry?

Hi All: We are going to Ireland for our first time the second week of Sept. On Thursday, we are going from Dromoland Castle to Sheen Falls Lodge. We would like to see at least a bit of the Ring of Kerry on that day so we were thinking of driving from Dromoland to Waterville (3 hours) and then on to Kenmare. GoogleMaps indicates that we can drive on Annadale Rd to Ballaghsheen Pass to Waterville but we're not sure of the conditions of these roads since they are off the main N70 route. We know that this will be a very long driving day but it's our only day in this area and we want to make the most of it. Any suggestions of where to stop or alternative routes would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I wouldn't be in a rush to leave Dromoland too early and probably best to just do the regular tour bus route of Invaragh as getting off piste is beneficial but time consuming.

Don't do Ballaghisheen if its getting dark. Its not a good road to get lost on. If you're going to Waterville just continue on to Kenmare along the coast.

HOWEVER, If you only have time to do one part of the Ring and you've got a long day, then I think you should stick to the N71 between Killarney and Kenmare. You'll be able to see Torc Waterfall, Muckross Gardens (don't think you'll have time to see the house), Ladies View and some of the lakes.

Go onto Google maps and play with the yellow man. The road N71 road between Killarney and Kenmare is spectacularly beautiful.

Thank you both very much. We are going to take the N71 between Killarney and Kenmare and skip Ballaghisheen.
