Suggestion for Cheap round of Golf?? (In the West)

Golf's not my priority of this trip, but it sure would be nice to experience at least 9 holes while I'm in your beautiful place. I'm not looking to spend more than 50-70 Euro, but I'll have to rent clubs, so I might have to stretch past that? A local course is fine with me, even just 9 holes would do if I can't do better.

Anywhere County Claire to County Donegal. Ideally within an hour of Galway? (I'll be there for a week). I don't mind driving, but I'm guessing the need to rent clubs together with a budget course might be a show-stopper. Those of you golfers who know the area, please let me know where I might be a welcome guest on a short budget. I'd actually enjoy a local course much more than the big name joints, just for the comeraderie I might find there. The friendly atmosphere is more important to me than the condition of the greens. :o)

Thanks, Dan

Hi Dan

The Golfer in this house is away. However, having lived in the West, I know these are some that he played frequently, and I the willing wife (and sometimes caddy) accompanied him on occasion.

They all have "Visitor" information on their websites - but I can't see any indications of whether they hire out clubs

His favourite - Westport http://www.westportgolfclub.com/ Never mind the clubs - bring the camera.

along with Galway Bay galwaybaygolfresort.com/visitors-galway-golf… (another camera job)

He was also fond of Ballinrobe ballinrobegolfclub.com/BGC-Visitor-Informati…

plus in Sligo

Enniscrone enniscronegolf.com/index.php/…specialoffers

Strandhill http://www.strandhillgolfclub.com/

Co Sligo http://www.countysligogolfclub.ie/home

Actually, there are probably great camera opportunities at the majority of those listed - don't know whether it is acceptable or not though.

One thing's for sure, the 19th hole will be the best on the Course ;-)

Actually, just thinking...

Ashford Castle have a 9 hole course, and they hire out Clubs - albeit I don't know if it's for guest use only. Might be worth a shot (and another great camera opportunity!) ashford.ie/golf-ashford-castle-mayo-ireland.…

Rathbane Golf Club in Limerick is a municipal (public) golf club and non-members are always welcome

http://www.rathbanegolfclub.com/ Its not a show club, its a down to earth place with lots of locals there.

If my brother wants a round of golf when he is home in Limerick, this is where he plays.
