Cycling Around the Coast of Ireland + Border Counties

A blog and short article in The Irish Times by Brian McIntyre on his cycling trip in late July and August 2013, around the coast of Ireland and along the border counties.

His trip is raising money for the Peter McVerry Trust:

The blog is called Rothar Republic, with rothar being the Irish for bicycle:

From today's Irish Times, the relevant article is '10 Things a Cyclist Notices about Rural Ireland'

irishtimes.com/life-and-style/travel/10-thin…

Special positive mention for Co Monaghan, which doesn't often feature as a tourist destination on these forums:

Quote:

Co Monaghan is a wonder to behold. Domain of hills and lakes, cows and manure, its stony grey soil and ardent people have riches to offer, in a humble manner that is truly affecting. There is a stillness in villages such as Latton and Inniskeen that feels special, and a warmth to be found in a people whose lives do not revolve around servicing tourism.

You'd think he could manage to just go around Ireland without bringing a poltical agenda into it.
