Day trips from Killarney the back to Dublin

Excitedly planning a trip in July 2014 and will be travelling from Furbo (Galway) via coastal route to somewhere in/near Killarney for 3 nights (any suggestions B&B's, Pubs). We want to do 2 day trips; one driving the Ring of Kerry and whatever else we can fit in, and the other up to Limerick (Bunratty Castle) and then across to the Rock of Cashel before returning to base. Is this trip OK for a day trip or are we aiming to do too much?

From Killarney area, we then want to spend 2 nights somewhere before we drive back to Dublin. Any suggestions on where to stay and itinerary? We were thinking maybe Kilkenny OR a small town/village with a good pub where we could experience something more normal than the tourist towns/cities that to bulk of our trip will be.

Wonderful the mileage you can cover in Australia every day.. Unfortunately that mileage does not translate into Irish. From the Connemara coast hotel (not much else in Furbogh) down to Killarney it depends what you want to see/do along the way but with Bunratty and Limerick on the wish list put those before (by pinching a night from) Killarney rather than drive past to drive back. Then Cashel is possible between Killarney and Kilkenny.

Thanks for the advice tony2phones. We have to decided to stay in Bunratty for 2 nights and visit Cashel from there, then drive to Killarney for 3 nights via Dingle. To cover the extra 2 in Bunratty we have pinched 1 night from the Killarney to Dublin leg and added an extra night to our stay in Ireland.

We probably could have gone with our original plan, but we feel this will give us more time and a better opportunity to see the sites on our list. We are Country Australians who have been known to travel 300+ kilometres just to go out for lunch then driven 300+ to get back home in the same day, so long stints driving are no problem.
