Hi to all,
after 4 days in Dublin we picked our car up at Avis on Kilmainham Road. Good service, good car, good rates.
Day 1: went south and visited the Avoca shop in Kilmacanogue.
Love this shop! Bourght 6 tiny porcelain spoons with
different rose decors...
Place is great for lunch, too: lots of special salades, rolls
and yummy cakes!!
Drove to Glendalough: bright sunshine, fantastic landscape,
when on the grounds, almost sacred feeling! Very special
place. Not to be missed!
Disappointment in Wexford than: we had booked at
McMenamins (looking forward to the award winning breakfast)
but it had been closed 2 days before!!
Day 2:Bright sunshine again, visited the Heritage Park which gave
us a good idea of Irelands very early history! Had a nice cup of
on the terrace of the restaurant, overlooking a little lake. Than
we wanted to see the sea and went on to the Hook peninsula
to see the lighthouse on Hooks Head! Loved it! Walked
(carefully) on the rocks! Didn´t want to leave..... Took the ferry
Passage East (just a few minutes, but 8,--€!) and went down
to Dunmore East. Lovely village. Time run out for Waterford,
as it was late in the afternoon already. Went on to Kilkenny
straight and stayed for 2 nights at Hillgrove B & B - an abolute
great place to stay!! Wonderful innkepers.
Day 3: First Kilkenny: did the castle tour, guided by a very
competent lady, brought the whole place and the Buttler
family back to live! Loved the park! Lunch at the Kilkenny
Design centre which I can recommend! Had a cool beer on
the terrace of the River Court Hotel with great view on the
Went to Jerpoint Abby in the afternoon which I can recommend
very much, too, and stopped on our way back to Kilkenny
at the Nicholas Mosse Pottery in Bennettsbridge! Loved it.
Bourght a little bowl in tulip pattern...
Back to Kilkenny we had a nice dinner at Carrigans and had
a lot of fun Ryans pub.
Day 4: Short visit of Carlown, than to the Highcross in Moone
(hard to find, but did it thanks to Clauds!)! It´s worth a short
sidestep. Back to the Wicklow Mountains - crossing via Sally
Gap (almost an adventure, roads are so narrow at some
parts), back to Dublin, staying at the Azalea B & B which I
can recommend very much! Drove to Howth in the evening,
did a walk above the cliffs near the lighthouse and had a
wonderful "good by-view" on Dublin! Last pint at Fagans
(close to our B & B)...
Day 5: After enjoying our last Irish breakfast, short trip to the
airport, returning the car after 700 km and off to Germany.
Thanks to all an everybody for your competent advises! Will miss
you! Tschüss und Ade!!
