South and Southwest Trip

Working on a trip in and out of Shannon. Thinking of these stops:

Cliff House---in Ardmore----it just sounds like the perfect place to get over jet lag?

Then to Kenmare for 2 nights

Then to Dingle for 2 nights

Then to Dromoland Castle or Gregans inn as a base for Cliffs of Moher, Burran, etc?

Advise or suggestions?

#### It is. Beautiful location and all rooms have ocean view. Gorgeous restaurant there and equally good bar food. Stunning cliff walk accessible from the front door and they'll even provide you with wellington boots. Ardmore itself is very pretty with two lovely craft shops just down the road and in the village - White Horses restaurant is fantastic for morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea. DO IT !

Then to Kenmare for 2 nights

Fabulous. Will your budget rise to the Park Hotel? If not - afternoon tea there is a MUST. Kenmare is so lovely. If you are hikers you can walk over the hills from Kenmare to Killarney (3.5 hours) and get a taxi back. Finnegans of Kenmare will arrange that for you if you are interested.

Then to Dingle for 2 nights

#### More Fabulous. Heatons is a really special Guesthouse 5 mins walk from the town, and Benners Hotel in the town centre is also very nice.

Then to Dromoland Castle or Gregans inn as a base for Cliffs of Moher, Burran, etc?

#### I've been to Gregans and really liked it. It's very quiet, so if that's what you want - go for it. However if you want a little more activity - then Dromoland.

Enjoy the planning

I suggested this itinerary on 1 of your earlier posts (copied and pasted here so you don't have to search back through your posts):

So. . . . If you're going to fly into Shannon, suggest you choose 3 different locations and spend 2-3 nights in each, depending on your interests. You've already received some great suggestions from folk on your earlier posts, like Kinvara, north Clare; Dingle Peninsula, Kenmare , both in co. Kerry. . . . These would make great bases from which to explore the surrounding countryside.

Kinvara is a pretty village on the edge of the Burren:

Alternatively, have a look at Ballyvaughan village, which lies a short drive along the coast from Kinvara:

Accommodation suggestions:

You could then drive down to Dingle for 2-3 nights - personally, I'd recommend 3 nights in order to have 2 full days to enjoy this area:

Al these have great views here on Tripadvisor :

Then drive down through Killarney and the National Park to Kenmare; you could stop en-route in Killarney to visit Muckross House & Gardens, Torc Waterfall, Ross Castle if they interest you:

Kenmare is a very attractive little town on the Ring of Kerry, and is an ideal base from which to explore the Ring or the lesser-known but equally beautiful Beara Peninsula.

Accommodation options include these:

Ring of Kerry :

You need a full day to drive around the Ring, and a full day for Beara. Not suggesting you do both, but pick one or the other.

Your final night will have to be spent near Shannon, as most flights leave in the morning, and there's a 3-hr check-in required. This hotel is within couple minutes' drive of the airport and is very comfortable:

I think these locations give you a good range of scenery and activities, and all offer some great dining possibilities.

I've not visited Ardmore, but if Bryno recommends it, then that's good enough for me :-). However, do be careful driving for 3+hrs after an overnight flight (tiredness, jet lag to consider).

It would be really nice if you'd come back to this post (or any of your earlier posts) and let us know what you think of our ideas :-)

Thank you so much. It is your post that's allowed me to finally focus in as I've been very scattered......still lots to see in not much time. I am thinking of getting a driver for part of the trip so we can just relax and enjoy.......if you have any other suggestions--let me know. I appreciate it very much

One more question we only have time for one night someplace. (2everywhere else). So where should we reduce to one? Cliff house. Kenmare park Dingle or drmoland?
