Trip to Ireland this June

My sister and I are traveling to Ireland this June. We will fly into Shannon airport and back out nine days later). We would like to see the Ring of Kerry, visit Mary Maddison on the Beara peninsula, visit a castle (3 days for this) and meet up with my brother to see the north for our last four days. Aside from visiting Armagh in the north, we don't have any other firm plans. We are looking for suggestions. Should we book some day trips? - we don't want to be part of a group for the entire visit - What are the best places to stay in the south and in the north (near Armagh)? Can we stay in a castle? We are pretty wide open and just starting our planning, so any ideas would be cheerfully received. Thanks so very much!

When in the north, I would recommend the Giants Causeway, Bushmills and the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge, but it is a good drive from Armagh. Also the Titanic Experience in Belfast and taking a "black taxi" tour will give great insight into the "troubles" .

My favourite castle is http://www.markreecastle.ie/. But there are several from reasonably priced to outrageously expensive imo.

This is also very popular

you could use your castle days in the first part of the trip and add some days to the places you have on your wish list before you meet your brother....then maybe you could share the castle experience with him at ross castle.....I am dying to stay there but so far haven't been able to work it in....hopefully next year...

http://www.ross-castle.com/en/ is located in county meath and the prices are really very affordable....they say it's haunted????....

just something to think about.....

Couple of things to note/ask before recommending further :

Do you plan on renting a car to travel around.

And if you're departing transatlantic from Shannon, please note that most flights leave in the morning and require 3-hr checkin. This means that you'll probably need to spend your final night near Shannon, either the Oakwood Arms hotel, which is a mere 3-minute drive from the airport, or consider Ennis (town) which is around 20-minute drive away.

When planning your route (if driving), you should find this routeplanner useful for plotting routes. Note that the drive times quoted are "bare minimum" and are fine for those used to driving on Irish roads. Add a further 20% to those times to allow for unfamiliar roads and possible delays due to traffic! roadworks, etc:

To start your trip, Kenmare would be an ideal base from which to explore Ring of Kerry and Beara; it's a pretty little market town with good range of accommodation and some nice pubs and restaurants :

Thank you so much! Yes, we will be in Armagh for a full day and then we want to go further north, so this is perfect
