Advice please - best way, Connemara, Cliffs, Dingle, Ferry?

Hi travelers! We are going into Shannon early morning and driving up to Galway. On the second day we are going back south again to Dingle.

Would you suggest on Day 1 going straight to Galway and then perhaps Connemara for Day 1 and then on Day 2 hitting the Cliffs of Moher on the way down to Dingle?

Any feedback on the car ferry going south at Kilrush, is this the way to go? Thanks!!

Are you arriving from North America that morning or from somewhere in Europe?

If you are arriving from North America, I would seriously caution against trying to see Connemara. You will be heavily jet-lagged and you will be learning to drive in a new country. That is not a good combination. I have struggled when having the benefit of my own car on roads I know when coming off a transatlantic flight.

If you really want to try that itinerary, visit the Cliffs of Moher on the way to Galway. It will keep the driving down on your first day.

Agree. If you're coming off a flight from the States it's a lot of driving to expect to go to Galway City (which by itself is not a long drive from Shannon) and then on to Connemara and back to town.

Even though Galway is one of my favorite places in Ireland I might even question going there at all on your first day. You'l likely be tired (assuming still that you're coming from the US) and not really see much of the place at all, only to get up the next morning and head away.

Maybe a look at the Cliffs on the arrival day and then a night in Clare, then you'd be on your way to Dingle in the morning.

Connemara is too far, too extensive for a 1st day http://goo.gl/maps/L5ihu between Shannon and Galway is also a considerable area http://goo.gl/maps/e4gVk Personally I would suggest you use Ennis as the base for your first night. Ennis is a great touring base for what was the "Shannon Region" and the whole of Clare including 1/2 mile of Tourist cliffs.. You are also straight on the drag to south of the river. http://www.visitennis.com/

Thank you for your kind response. I see that the car travel should not take more than 1/ 1/2 to Galway, and since we get in so early (7am), I was just thinking that after catching our breath we might consider Connemara, do you think that is too much? Thanks!!
