Connemara - Half Day Itinerary

Need advice on itinerary for half day in Connemara region. I want to leave Galway after lunch and head out to Kylemore Abbey. What other stops should I make on the way there and back to Galway (where we are staying)? A nice beach for collecting sea shells? I have a 3 year old and 65 year old. Thanks!

http://goo.gl/Ek8bpw gives some points going out on the N59. Once at Clifden do the short Sky Rd and back then continue round past the National Park and Kylemore, Back to Galway via Cong and down from Headford. http://goo.gl/maps/L5ihu gives some other points but with only half a day you are pushed. dropping out from Clifden on the R341 you will reach Gurteen/Dogs Bay which will if you have time tick the Beach box.. www.galwaytourism.ie/ptop-5-beaches.html

Connemara is a vast area and really needs at least a day for a steady loop drive.
