First stop near Shannon Airport recs?

My family (2 adults and 2 kids ages 8 & 6) will be arriving at Shannon airport on a Monday morning. Once we get our luggage and rental car, we'll have about 5 hours until we can check into our B&B which is near Tulla. Assuming we'll be pretty blown-out from the flight and lack of sleep, I'd like to keep things very simple and low-key. Any recs for an easy, delicious spot for breakfast within 30 miles of Shannon? Any nearby sights where we can stroll around in a mental fog? Maybe Bunratty? Do we have to pay for the castle and folk park or is there a village outside of the ticketed experience? Thanks in advance for your advice!

Bunratty isn't really a village where you'd kill time strolling around, it is tiny.

Lahinch is a seaside village where the kids have run on the beach to let off some steam. About 50km /. 30mls from Shannon. http://www.theaa.ie/routes/#. The Cliffs of Moher are near by. You could continue up Black Head to Ballyvaughan and the Burren before winding your way back to Tulla.

Bunratty folk park is an option, Craggaunowen another both paid entrance.

Quin Abbey is a free option then Killaloe/Ballina at the foot of Lough Derg (good kids play area) then up to Mountshannon (good kids play area/maze) perhaps before dropping back to Tulla.

Lahinch including the Leisure centre for a swim and shower? is a good option, Ennis on the same option. Loop Head also a good option. lots of them to go at..

you do have to pay to see bunratty folk park, which includes being able to visit the castle and I think the kids will enjoy it very much....well worth the admission for kids of all ages....

On route to Tulla head for Ennis 20 minutes drive away.

All very good suggestions already. Another one to consider, where the kids could run around and have some fun is Coole Park in Gort.

Quite a few breakfast options in Gort. The Gallery Café open at 10 a.m. but if you don't want to wait, Sullivan's Hotel should be serving breakfast earlier.
