Ballaghbeama Gap. A rugged driving adventure

This is a stunning backcountry drive between Gearha South at R568 and Quaybaun at N70, essentially bisecting the Ring of Kerry. A widely-varying landscape, worth doing if you are a patient, attentive driver. Paved all the way, but go slow and be ready to yield to oncoming drivers (of whom we saw but 3 on the entire route). Pretty-much guaranteed to be tour-bus-free, haha. Here's a look at what a short bit of the drive looks like: http://youtu.be/wbSR1davc5k

I've driven it a couple of times. It is a stunning drive, but it's not that scary. Just take it slowly and be prepared to pull in for oncoming cars.

The Conor Pass is probably scarier.

Only once has a road so disturbed me that I had to hand over the driving. That was the Gorges de Galamus in France. It would have been stunning if I could have looked. Thankfully I walked it afterwards.
