chauffered driving tours

Planning a 10 day trip in September this year, we have decided to go with a private chauffeured drive tour. We have been looking at the Hammond tours and Authentic Ireland tours.

Anyone recently used either of these tour group's and would recommend them?

We just used Hammond tours. We were in Ireland from 6/19 through 6/27. We moved every night. We had 11 people (3 generations) which meant we had our own mini bus and guide for the duration. Our guide Joe Clancy was a wealth of knowledge and became part of the family by the time it was done. Hammond did a great job.

The best part of Hammond was their arrangement for a third party chauffeur from Carry Coaches. It seemed apparent to us that our travel agent had never been to or stayed at some of the accommodations where we were booked. This was a surprise to us as Hammond touted that they had first hand knowledge of the towns and hotels. Upon contacting Hammond after a long day of traveling to express an unacceptable three day accommodation arrangement they had made we were told essentially to go find your own place and from this point forward you're on your own. Hammond deceived us and we would not recommend them.

I suppose people do book these tours on the understanding that the hotels/accommodation is vetted by the agent, but as 'acceptable' and 'comfortable' are subjective, some people will find them overpriced for what they are and others will be unhappy with the quality. Everyone has different standards when travelling, which is why I prefer to read the reviews and do it myself in the first place.

Also it is quite possible for your tour company or agent to go bankrupt, leaving you with nothing, it would be unusual for all your BandBs to go at once.
