9 day Itinerary, less than 3 hotels preferred

Hi,

My husband, 10 year old daughter and myself will be travelling in April. We will be arriving in Dublin following a stay in London on 3/31 and will fly to Amsterdam on 4/8. We have not made reservations yet for the Ireland/Amsterdam flight so we could fly out of an airport other than Dublin.

We would love to see much of the country, but would like to be realistic and not stay in a different hotel every night. Ideally, we would keep the hotel hopping to once every 3 nights.

We also would prefer to stay in hotels over B&Bs if possible. My husband works for one of the "big" travel companies so we get fairly large discounts on hotels and would like to take advantage of that.

We plan on renting a car, but probably not until we are leaving Dublin. I am not sure if it would be better to train out of Dublin and rent a car in another city?

Any thoughts on an itinerary that would allow us to see the "must sees" but not overwhelm and exhaust us would be so very much appreciated.

You could start with a couple of nights in Dublin, then return to the airport to collect a rental car.

Head to Galway - about 2.5hrs drive from the airport. It's a good base for the west coast if you don't want to move around too much. Places to explore : Connemara, Aran Islands - both need a full day:

My children had great fun here:

Aran Islands:

The head down to Killarney: lots to entertain you there -

Consider driving up to Dingle Peninsula for the day - and be sure to drive west beyond Dingle town around Slea Head for fabulous scenery, gorgeous beaches . . . .

You could then fly with Aer Lingus from Cork to Amsterdam : approx 1.5hr drive from Killarney.

Apart from Galway and Killarney being good bases for west coast, and south-west, they also have a fair amount of hotels, so presumably you'd be able to find some to negotiate with.

Car rental : have a look at the following web-sites; they offer quotes that include all fees, taxes, and fully comprehensive insurance - be sure to read the terms and conditions :

Oops! Forgot to mention that you could also visit the Burren and Cliffs of Moher from Galway, as a day-trip:

This is what I tried to do, but it seemed as though we would actually be doing MORE driving by staying in just a few places than by moving more frequently. I compromised and ended up with a 12-day itinerary; staying two nights in most places. I've tried to make it so that the longest day's drive (exclusive of sightseeing stops) is about 4 hours.

Your itinerary looks good, though.

Dublin, Galway and Kinsale would work for me.
