Specific Pub and Restaurants for Killarney, Galway, Dublin

Hello,

I am traveling to mid sept to Killarney, Galway and Dublin. Staying very close to the city center at each city. I am looking for specific pub/bar recommendations for each area. We like lively and fun places with live music, and some authenticity. Not too touristy. As for restaurants we are pretty casual. Like some good food and atmosphere within a reasonable price. What are some favorite irish dishes we should try?

Thanks for your help!!

I'm not a pub person so I'm not good at making recommendations for pubs. However in Killarney there are a number of pubs on Main Street and all of them appear to have a mix of locals and tourists.

In Killarney, in terms of places to eat, our favourite place is Macs of Main Street www.macsofmainstreet.com The staff are friendly, its a good mix of locals (Killarney people) and tourists. The atmosphere is relaxed and the food is excellent. We've never had a bad meal there and we've eaten there many, many times.

To get an idea of how Macs is, when our 14 year old son was a tiddly he thought Pork Sausages were CORK sausages :o) And all of the staff offered him CORK sausages when he used to eat there.

In terms of local foods, Macs has a range of locally sourced foods that you should try. But also when in Ireland try some of our wonderful cheeses. There is so much fresh, well produced food here including fish and grass fed meat. And of course the local chocolates including Skelligs Chocolate.

Favourite Irish Dishes tend to be served to tourists in touristy places. The best Irish Stew, in reality, is one your Mammy makes. I like potato cakes but I like them made with Emmental cheese and served with Sweet and Sour sauce (in fancy terms, that's probably called Fusion Food lol!!)

Pub wise in Killarney, I like the Laurels on the main street. Galway I like Tí Neachtain.

In Galway, if you want trad Irish music, then Ti Coili or even better The Crane or Taaffe's. Ti Neachtain's would also be a favourite of mine, but the music there is much more diverse. It also does nice pub grub but if you really want to splash out. try Artisan restaurant, upstairs in TI Neachtains. All these places are within a 5 minute walk of each other ( except the Crane, about a 10/12 minute walk)

Bruxelles in Dublin is a great pub. I also enjoy The Porter House Temple Bar, JW Sweetmans, Cassidy's and The Brew Dock.
