Come on down to County Clare this June 23rd when we will attempting to break the World Record for the most people with the same first name to be gathered in one place.

If you are on holiday around the area and your name is any form of Clare, why not join in the fun.

Just an update on this event. It will now take place on Sunday 23rd June at the Cathedral in Ennis.

Katie, unfortunately a surname of Clair will not suffice, as Birth Certs will be required to validate the world record if it is achieved. Over 1100 Claires, Clares, Clairs are required to set the new record.

There is a whole fun weekend organised around the event, so anyone whose name fits the bill and is around the area should check it out.

Shops and restaurants in Ennis are offering great offers and discounts to people who are registed to take part.

@bannergirl:

How about those who live in another county called Clare? Here, in Michigan, there is a Clare county and a City of Clare - more a small town, really with a population of around 3,000.

Clare county was named after an Irish surveyor from County Clare, in Ireland. There's a hotel called Doherty Hotel in the city of Clare, with the original founders/owners having connections with Milltown Malbay, if memory serves me.

BTW, Michigan also has Roscommon, Wexford and Antrim counties in addition to Clare; as well as Emmet county, named after Robert Emmet. All of those counties are very rural with small populations.

Edit: Forgot to say, Co Clare is probably my favorite county in Ireland.
