Transport from Cork to Cobh for Titanic Museum

We are considering either train or bus transport from Dublin to Cork with a side visit to Cobh. Any idea of transport options/timetables from Cork to Cobh, return? This may be a day return from Dublin to Cork-Cobh or would you suggest an overnight stay? The main focus of the visit is to go to the Titanic Museum and to take a walk through the centre of Cork!

Thanks

You could get the GoBus express from Dublin to Cork then a walk to the train station down to Cobh. Rather than rush back the same day head back to Dublin on the 8X bus which stops in Cashel and Cahir.

Cork train station is quite a walk from Cork Bus Station. I would suggest getting a train to Cork and another train to Cobh. The train ride to Cobh is lovely and passes by Fota wildlife park.

the train from Cork to Cobh runs every half hour and is only 5 euros. I don't think you can improve upon that plan. The Titanic museum is interesting but I don't know if that in itself is worth the side trip and while we enjoyed the walk around the town there isn't a whole lot to do there. If you do go I can highly recommend Gilbert's to dine in http://www.gilbertsincobh.com/. We had a lovely dinner there.

The train is definitely the best way to get to Cobh.

In fact, there is no bus, so the only other option is a bus and a ferry and that leaves you 30 mins walk from Cobh town centre.

As to how to get to Cork, it depends on a few factors.

The train offers speed and comfort, but is more expensive. It's also worth remembering that the bus stations in Dublin and Cork are more centrally located, which removes some of the speed advantage.

As Bean A says, if Cobh is the primary reason for your trip, the connection is easier if you go to Cork by train. If you want to see some of Cork City too, then that's not so much of a consideration. It's about a 10-15 min walk from the train station to the city centre, but it's also linked by the 205 bus (you can also use the 226 between the bus station and the train station).
