Need to get from Cork to Belfast but struggling

Hi. I have a concert in Belfast on the 2nd October but I will be in Cork working as an au pair in so I need a cheap(ish) way to get there and back again. Flights are so overpriced and I cannot afford them. If anyone can help me work out a travel route and how much it would cost I would be really grateful.

Cheapest would probably bus to Dublin and from there to Belfast takes about 6 1/2 hours according to the Bus Eireann website.

Cork to Belfast adult standard return is €49.50. But it's cheaper to buy separate tickets. Cork - Dublin standard return is €21.85 online at www.buseireann.ie and Dublin - Belfast standard return is €25 (just buy on day of travel at ticket office at Dublin Busáras). So total cost €46.85 return.

The tickets are valid for return any day within a month.

Be careful when boarding the Belfast bus in Dublin that the driver knows you are still on the outward journey (otherwise when returning from Belfast it will look like the ticket is already used). Make sure s/he does not stamp the return portion (I've found that a few drivers stamp tickets without looking at the ticket). When showing the ticket you could say something like "Hi, I'm still on my outward journey".

You could change coach at either Dublin Busáras or Dublin Airport but Busáras is better as you'll get the pick of seats and all of the shops/cafés are at hand under cover.

Timetables:

X8 Cork - Dublin/Dublin Airport:

001/200 Dublin Busáras - Belfast Europa Buscentre:

The Dublin - Belfast route is jointly operated by Ulsterbus - Goldline so some of the coaches are blue and white.

Hope this might be of some help.

You can also construct a connection via Dublin airport usiing Aircoach

http://www.aircoach.ie/

or take the train, of course.

Train is probably the fastest, but even if booked online there will be a heavy price premium. Also you have to get from Heuston to Connolly, which is no fun with bags.

The tip about being careful about your ticket stamp on the bus is a good one. I got done on that taking a bus with a connection in Waterford before.
