Transport from Cork Airport to Kent Station

Hello -

In a couple weeks, my wife and I will be in Ireland. Part of our trip includes dropping off a rental car at Cork Airport, and then taking the train from Kent station to Dublin. There must be some bus options, but at least one that linked from the Cork airport website seems to be out of business. Does anyone have experience with buses on this route? Where does it drop you in Cork city? The only one I can find some information on is Bus Eireann.

- Matt

If you have a lot of heavy luggage then get a taxi from the airport. It's only a 5 mile journey to the train station. Cost for this trip about €12 and taxis are plentiful just outside the terminal door.

If you don't mind walking for 10 minutes with your luggage then you can get the bus service 226 or 249. Just make sure it is going to the bus station, as one of those services is also the Kinsale bus, and you DON'T want to end up in Kinsale on your day of travel to dublin ;-))

Once you get to Cork bus station it is an easy 10 minute walk to the train station.

Cost for the bus is about €3 each, and while this is cheaper than a taxi, the taxi is more convenient as it takes you right to the door of the train station.

Also, it is cheaper to book your train tickets online at www.irishrail.ie up to three days before you travel. The prices go up the nearer you get to your train travel date. Just something to consider.

Taxi travel time to the city off peak is about 20 minutes.

During peak hours the journey could take 30-35 mins.

Bus travel time to the city is about the same as taxi.

The 226 has been extended to serve the train station now, so there's no worry with the walk from the bus station any more. The main advantage of a taxi is you won't have to wait for the bus. A small advantage of the bus is that it has a stop by the hire car drop offs, so you won't need to transfer back to the terminal.

Be sure it's a 226 rather than a 249 or you won't get further than the bus station.

The bus is generally reliable, but is prone to delays between 5pm and 6:30pm.
