Bantry House, roll up, roll up, it won't be around for long

Beautiful Bantry house is to have all it's contents sold next October(ish), it will then close as a heritage house and be used as an event venue. So last chance for anyone interested in Irish History to have a look at this wonderful building. (The grounds will remain open to the public)

Read my review here and then hop in the car and head for Bantry.

Yes, it is a pity, but it's privately owned and the family have to do what they have to do I suppose.

Bryno, Goodness gracious, I don't know how I missed this article. As you state, it is privately owned, it's their personal decision. Any news of a closing date? Keshgrammy

Hello. At least the gardens and the grounds, with their beautiful views of Bantry Bay, will still be available.

Keshgrammy, once the contents have been disposed of I guess the house renovation will commence. The auction is supposed to happen in Autumn, so I guess October at the earliest.

Thanks for posting this Bryno; so sad to learn, but I guess the decision wasn't taken lightly by the family.

I visited 10 years ago, and, apart from the lovely gardens and breathtaking views, my lasting memory will be of hearing one of the family practicing upstairs, and the sound of beautiful music floating down into the hall . . . . .
