public transport ie bus schedules - for county Donegal

Unable to take the best option for seeing county Donegal - ie renting a car and driving around myself - I am anxious to check the local bus

schedules - and work around them - as well as use taxis if necessary.

My plan is to be in Donegal this September - dates not set yet.

Any suggestion as to how I may go about finding this info will be greatly appreciated.

As well as the Expressway services, check the local rural commuter bus timetables. The routes in Donegal are the numbers between 480 and 495 (inc).

There are plenty of buses criss-crossing Donegal, but you will need to be very flexible to use them. The good news is that the scenery in Donegal is so lovely all over that any bus journey should be enjoyable. Just keep a close check on the timetables to that you don't get stranded.

There are a few private companies, mainly the Lough Swilly Bus company, who cover large areas of North Donegal much more extensively that Bus Eireann

The Lough Swilly don't have timetables on the internet but try a web search - an old timetable from 2005 is on wikipedia. They were meant to close a few years ago, but I think they are still going

There is also the Feda O'Donnell bus that goes a number of times daily From Gweedore through Letterkenny and Donegal to Galway, and even operates a bus to Glasgow every day. They are very reliable and have a website www.fedaodonnell.com

"Buncrana also benefits from a number of privately run bus services.

North West Busways is a local coach service, which offers a range of services linking Derry, Letterkenny and the Inishowen Peninsula, three times daily.

Lough Swilly Buses offers a daily service to Letterkenny, eleven services to Derry and four services to Carndonagh daily.

John McGinley Coaches offers a daily service to Dublin. "
