Rail Pass

Is there such a thing as a pass that can be purchased for unlimited rail travel within a specific time period? If so, would it be good for Northern Ireland too? Who do I contact?

Thanks.

Hi,

I would suggest you search under the Ireland forum, for 'rail pass'. Lots of previous postings on this.

It's funny that the national bus company, Bus Eireann (equiv. to Greyhound) have a better website with details of joint bus/rail tickets.

Translink are the provider in Northern Ireland.

Both irish Rail and Translink have a contact us section, so email them off with your questions.

Check out raileurope.com/us/…eurail_ireland_pass.htm

for tickets - looks like a good price, but don't know if it includes Northern ireland.

Let us know if we can answer anymore questions you have, and hope the above helps.

Here is some up to date information on Irish rail train passes - valid at time of publishing Aug 07. Theses are cheaper then the 'EuroDomino' passes. All these can be purchased at any main station. These are adult prices, with child prices generally 1/2 the price.

As you can see they represent good value if you intend making >3 journeys, when you consider a Dublin-Cork return ticket = EUR61. Pity they don't include Dublin Bus services.

IR Explorer (rail only) 5 days out of 15 for unlimited travel on all Irish Rail services, but not the Dublin-Belfast Enterprise service - EUR138(GBP94)

IR/NIR Rover (rail only) 5 days out of 15 for unlimited travel on all Irish Rail and Northern Ireland Rail services, including the Dublin-Belfast Enterprise service - EUR171(GBP116)

IR Explorer (rail and bus) 8 days out of 15 for unlimited travel on all Irish Rail services, but not the Dublin-Belfast Enterprise service. Also valid on Express and local town bus services in Cork,Limerick,Waterford and Galway (not Dublin) - EUR210(GBP143)

Emerald Card (bus and rail) 8 days out of 15 for unlimited travel on all Irish Rail services, and Northern Ireland Rail services, including the Dublin-Belfast Enterprise service. Also includes bus services as above. EUR236(GBP160). You can also extend this to 15 days out of 30 - EUR406(GBP275)
