We are on a cruise visiting Dublin on April 20th and have approximately 8 hours to sightsee. We’ve never been to Ireland, what do you recommend?
Get the HOHO bus (hop on hop off) and do the tour. You can get on and off at any tourist attraction you please all day. More Dublin info: www.visitdublin.com
We'd agree with Sally's advice about the HoHo and we'd recommend the Dublin Bus service. There are 32 stops at all of the major sights and attractions - you can do a full circuit and then get on and off as much as you like. There's currently a 20% discount when you book on line. The city centre is pretty compact and is easy to get around on foot but the HoHo will help you make the most of your short visit
You'll also find lots of useful information about Dublin, including things to see and do, in the Top Questions about Dublin section on the Dublin Forum.
If you are looking for recommendations for the best things to see and do in a day, our top two suggestions would be:
- Trinity College and the Book of Kells (the combined tour of the College and visit to the Book of Kells exhibition/Long Room is great value at €10)
We'd also recommend soaking up some local atmosphere strolling down Grafton Street or through St. Stephen's Green and heading for a traditional Dublin pub for lunch and a pint of the black stuff. O'Neill's in Suffolk Street, The Stag's Head in Dame Court and Davy Byrne's in Duke Street are all close to Trinity College and all are popular with locals as well as visitors. You can find more information on recommended traditional pubs in the Top Questions about Dublin section.
Have a read and then post again if you gave any more questions.
