Hi, My family and I (2 kids of 12 and 9) will be staying in Brittas Bay for 2 weeks in April. What is there to do in the area

smf1q, will you have a car? If so the Wicklow mountains are within easy reach and there's lots of drives/walks around there. Wexford town isn't that far away and there's Wicklow town as well. The children might enjoy the Wicklow Gaol (www.wicklowshistoricgaol.com/). You could even venture as far as Kilkenny with its castle and medieval streets (if your kids are interested in history).

I assume you have checked out websites like www.brittasbay.org/.

April won't necessarily be bathing weather but if the sun shines I am sure your 12 and 9 year olds will enjoy just pottering around the lovely sand dunes.

Take a look at the Top Questions about County Wicklow section on the County Wicklow Forum for lots of suggestions for things to see and do in the County Wicklow area. Public transport options are limited in parts of the county whereas a car will get you to all of the scenic and interesting nooks and crannies the county has to offer.

I owned a mobile home in Brittas Bay for a number of years. There is very little to do in the immediate area. It would take us 45 minutes to get from our home in Dublin to our site so it is possible to head in to Dublin for the day. We generally enjoyed walking the beach at Brittas Bay or nearby Jack's hole.

Wicklow town is about a 10 minute drive where you can visit

http://www.wicklowshistoricgaol.com/

Another attraction is http://www.mountushergardens.ie/

and a visit to http://www.hunters.ie/ is a must to enjoy a pint in their beautiful gardens.

For lunch you can visit http://www.jackwhites.ie/ or The Beehive Pub.

A day trip to http://www.powerscourt.ie/ and a shopping trip to

http://www.avoca.ie/index1.php in Kilmacanogue is another trip that you could combine with your trip to Powerscourt Gardens.
