Flogging Molly Band

Just curious if any of the locals on the board listen to the band Flogging Molly? The singer Dave King was born and raised in Dublin. The rest of the band is from the states. They are one of my husband and my favorite bands, and we are going to see them in concert tonite! A good warm up for our trip to Dublin in April. I was just wondering if they are popular over there at all?

Thanks

Okay, I know I am not the kind of local you were looking for (though hubby and I do have our Irish Citizenship) - but down here in Huntsville hubby and I love them too! Enjoy the concert!

I'm not a local either but I love Flogging Molly! I only got into them after I heard one of their songs on the movie P.S. I Love You. After that, I was hooked! Hope you enjoyed the concert,

I am a bit of a music nut, but I have never heard of them. I think from what I could see on the website etc, they are mainly an export/tourist Irish band.

That sort of music tends not to be what the majority of Irish people listen to.

Actually, if I could recommend some authentic Irish celtic rock, that are a big hit in Ireland. Check out Kila. They are doing a show in the Olympic, fantastic small intimate venue on Paddy's day.

I've been listening to Flogging Molly for years. On my first trip to Ireland in 2005, I asked locals in the pubs all over the country if they've heard of them. No one had!

I will definitely check them out, thanks for the tip. Flogging Molly is more of a punk band then an Irish band really. Punk with an Irish twist I guess. The concert was awesome!

To be honest they're really not that well known over here - very much like a lot of US bands that we know and love but who are relatively unheard of in their own country...

When you visit Dublin do be sure to check out Ireland's best independent record store, Road Records on Fade Street, where you can sample and pick up a selection of current local acts:

Dublin's contemporary music scene is stronger on the folk, singer/songwriter, side than the louder rock side although there's something for everyone - check out who's playing at Whelan's and Crawdaddy and the Button Factory when you're in town:
