Sports in Dublin

Hello,

I'll be visiting Dublin on July 9-10. Will there be any sporting events taking place during those two days?

On the 10th of July there will be All Ireland Hurling Championship Qualifiers on. The likelyhood is that they will be played in Croke Park, Dublin but there is no confirmation yet.

The Munster Hurling Final takes place outside Dublin on the 11th of July and this would be a great sporting event to attend if you happened to be in the area where it's on. It will either be played in Tipperary,Cork or Limerick!

The Leinster Gaelic Football Final is on Sunday 11th of July. This would be worth going to if you could extend your stay in the city by a day, especially if the Dublin team are playing. The hurling qualifiers on Saturday are most likely not to be in Croke Park. You would be best to check back closer to the time as the football and hurling championships progress for exact fixtures and venues

Didn't think of checking the football, but seems you will have no problem catching a sporting fixture whilst here :-)

If you're interested in soccer, there are a couple of games in the Premier Division in The league of Ireland (Airtricity League) on Fri 9th July. The one that stands out is the Dublin Derby between Saint Patrick's Athletic (the team I support!) and U.C.D (University College Dublin). Its in Saint Patrick's homeground of Richmond Park in Inchicore which isn't too far from Kilmainham Gaol, Its about a 15min bus ride from city centre, bus route 78a.

Saint Pat's have had a couple of fairly disapointing seasons but are off to a very good start this season so hopefully they'll still be in with a shout for the league come the time you visit. The atmosphere at these matches is great and there is a great buzz for the size of the crowd (average attendance usually around 1,600, a lot more on bigger games) . The quality of the football/soccer has imo soared in recent years and there seems to be a lot more local support for the clubs which is helping bring new life to a once ailing league.
