Arriving Dublin Sunday morning 21 Nov plan to pick up car and head to countryside...been to Kenmare before and loved it but it's far. 4+ hours...any other suggestions as to a pretty village closer to Dublin.??..would stay Sun and Monday night then plan to head back to Dublin for 3 nights at the Schoolhouse Hotel.

Consider Carlingford. About 1.5 hours north of Dublin. On the water with mountains all around. Close to the border with Northern Ireland and the Mountains of Mourne. A very pretty village

Carlingford is a good suggestion (www.carlingford.ie/). Tiny town, but lots of character. Nice places around in the area.

You could use any of these hotels as a base to explore County Wicklow.

I would agree with BOXtheFOX. The woodenbridge hotel is located in a beautiful area of Wicklow, about an hour from Dublin. It would be a great base to explore Wicklow.
