40th Birthday weekend

i need some help, a large group of us are heading into Dublin in a couple of weeks. Are ages range from 5-60yrs can someone advise of a resturant that would cater for all of us, we would pefer a lively place & that is quite reasonable.

Also once the kid goes to sleep can some one recommend a bar with live music. We are staying in the Jury's inn Purnell St.

Also any advice on where to find cheap beer, we are all big drinkers !!!

Also any tours or places of interest..we need the culture..

Thanks so much for the advice

Hi Iveco

I live in Dublin and there is a new restaurant that has just opened in temple bar ( centre of dublin) called the Merchants Arch. It is a beautiful Period restaurant that serves traditional irish food. Its pretty cheap, if you go mon / thur and sunday the restaurant operates a menu that has most starters at 5.00 euro and most mains at 10.00euro. Fri sat - they do an early bird up to 7pm for 19.99 and then they have a dinner menu for 24.99. We went there last week and really enjoyed the food and left full and happy. They have a full bar and the room is spectacular and service is very friendly. Hope this is of use. Regarding tours worth going on - the guiness tour is a must.

Another place to consider is Thunder Road in Temple Bar, it's a motorbike/rock themed restaurant with a small bar, it's ideal for groups and they welcome children. It's a fun place where people wont mind if you make a bit of noise, plus when you're finished you're food you can stay on drinking for a while too (minus the children!!!) They have a simple menu but all the food is well cooked and well presented and pretty reasonable too.

As far as bars with music go 3 Crown Alley (apparently now relaunched as The Old Storehouse) also in Temple Bar, might suit, they have live (sometimes Irish sometimes not, often a mix!) music every evening and yummy ice-cold Heineken on tap (among other things!!!) Nice atmosphere, nice staff, has a cosy feel though it is still quite large and can accommodate groups.

I know it's weird, someone from Dublin recommending not one but two establishments in Temple Bar but in amongst all the kitschie over priced tourist traps there are often hidden gems!
