Border control from London for US citizen

Good evening. We are in the process of planning our first trip to Europe. After doing three days in London, we are flying into Dublin. Does anyone know if we will need to clear immegration/customs upon arrival? Thanks for weighing in!

Yes, you will. The Republic of Ireland is not part of UK - and you're not a citizen of either place.

As Trintraveller notes, you will have clear immigration and customs in Dublin on arrival. All arriving passengers are subject to border controls. The controls for EU citizens are minimal, those for non-EU including US citizens are a little more protracted, though, in my experience, nothing as bureaucratic as immigration controls when entering the US. Customs are cursory and usually depend on spot checks rather than comprehensive examination of incoming luggage. You may be subject to some queueing for immigration, depending on time of day but customs is simply a queue-free, walk-through process.

Given that you are flying in from the UK and not the USA there are likely to be few Non EU citizens on your flight, this means there should be very little waiting time at immigration.

Which airline are you using? Aer Lingus fly into Terminal 2 which is a lot quicker to get through. Terminal 1 can be a good bit slower at times

Thanks to all for the quick and thoughtful responses. We''re looking into the flights, but are leaning to Air France from City Aiport, but Soonas you advice is something to consider.

Thanks again.

Immigration: join the queue for non-EU passport holders.

Customs: go through the Blue Channel.

Americans do not need a visa to either the UK or Ireland (for up to 3 month visit)
