Dublin on Christmas Day........

We are arriving in Dublin Christmas Eve for a one week stay in Ireland. One parent and two collage age siblings. any suggestions for a fun place to stay for Christmas Day on a limited budget and what to do, will everything be closed down for two days?

Yes, practically everything will be closed on Christmas day apart from hotels, and some Guesthouses and hostels. There will be a few convenience shops open with fresh supplies running low.

It won't be quite so armageddonish on St Stephens day, but don't expect an all singing, all dancing city on that day either.

Unless you have already booked into a hotel for Christmas Day lunch you will need to stock up on DVDs and goodies and develop a siege mentality for the day!

If St Stephens day weather is nice there should be people around the town and the parks out for a stroll, and at least some shops open. Probably not much in the way of tourist type places.

The 26th will get busy in the evening. It is a busy day for bars, but pretty much everything will be closed in the daytime.

If you can get there, it could be a nice day to see some of the coastal areas around Dublin. The walk round Bray Head will be open regardless of the day of the year.

I think you are in for a bit of a treat, you'll be able to see Dublin city when it is completely peaceful, no cars, no hurried shoppers no one yelling or shouting! You'll be able to stand in the middle of the street and get great angles for pics without a care in the world, I'm nearly envious ... but not enough to give up my family Christmas!

A LOT of people go to the horse racing at Leopardstown on St Stephens day - easy to get to, a fun afternoon, a real Dublin institution.
