Dublin to Killkenny

Hi guys. Im traveling from Dublin airport to Kilkenny tomorrow. It'll be my 1st Ireland experience. Im routing out my directions and see route M9 is what google maps is suggesting. It doesnt however look very scenic so as an alternate route im thinking of taking N81 to N80 OR maybe N78. Im looking for advice on which route will be more scenic and perhaps some recommendations for nice places to stop. I love taking pictures especially of old buildings, churches etc. Also a nice town to stop over for lunch.

If you are not jet lagged and if you have experience of Irish roads:

It's snowing here now, so if it doesn't stick, there are some nice places, just off the M9.You take the exit for Crookstown (exit 2) -there's a handy service station here with good clean toilets too!

(Craft village is a bit of stretch for what it is, but the loos are very very welcome if you are coming off the motorway!!)

You then head on the old road towards Carlow and first you'll see the signs for Moone.

After visiting the Moone highcross head back to the old road and continue on to Castledermot. At the traffic lights in the town, turn left -there's a good coffee shop here called the Mad Hatter's Café

Continue down this road and take the narrow road down to the right and this will bring you to the Church of Ireland graveyard and church will you can see the crosses, ancient doorway (mirrored in the newer church doorway and round tower.

Moone High cross, Castledermot High crosses, round tower, Hiberno Romanesque door way

Back on to the main street, turn left as if heading to Carlow and once you pass the little service station, veer to the left and keep on this road (towards Tullow) Follow the signs to Ducketts' Grove- if you like photographing and old places you'll hit the jackpot here!!It's not a castle, rather a mock-gothic ruined "big house" but looks like everybody thinks a haunted house should. (It's not haunted ,by the way, the gate lodge know as the Towers is, though.)

As you leave the grounds of Ducketts Grove turn left (you will have come from the other side) drive down this road and you will reach the aforementioned "Towers", not sadly neglected, but great for photos.

From here, go under the archway and take the middle road (it's kind of straight ahead, but veers a little)You pass over the motorway and come to a four cross road, turn right, and a small bit further on, you'll see a service station on your right. Just across and slightly down from here, you'll see the carpark for the Browneshill Dolmen

Turn right towards Carlow town and then follow the signs for Wexford, this will bring you out to the sliproad to rejoin the motorway.
