Hi ... I am coming to Dublin in January or February 2014

I am coming to Dublin in January or February 2014.

Is there anything I should do now? Any hard to get tickets or venues?

I am Irish to my core. Freckles and red hair. It will be so good to come here. Finally,

January and February are dismal months here - any chance you can reconsider your visit month? If I had to choose between both months, it would be February - and the later in the month, the better.

With regards doing anything now, I'd say, no need, just start working on the bones of an itinerary and enjoy the planning, PLENTY of time read the many trip reports uploaded on TA.

Not sure which has the fiercest weather NY or IE that time of year so if that's your only window then welcome. I suppose you should be considering where you would like to see, what you would like to do, how long you have, how you are going to get about and how flexible you are willing to be if things are cold and wet.

What kind of venues and tickets for what?

Some positive feedback from previous February visitors:

Love your NY determination, focus and energy, cm. You do us proud. Tony and Bryno, I believe, felt a responsibility to forewarn before advancing. I saw your profile and travel experiences suggestive of one who would have no problem facing weather challenges with a extremely positive mindset. I've done Ireland in winter and happily enough found, what was available allowed for great flexibility.

Additionally, I am happy to report that the Irish themselves are not exclusively a seasonally available lot, so you won't have much competition for their attentions. Besides, who wouldn't want to know a bit more about a totally refreshing nutcase who chooses to visit them in the exact context most would absolutely avoid, other than out of necessity? Just kidding there. People have been known to enjoy and appreciate a nutritious salty kernel now and again, especially when accompanied by a hearty stout.

Now our conscientious and extremely knowledgeable helpmates, Bryno and Tony, can refocus beyond the considerate prudence and well intentioned forebodings as is manifest in their preambles above. I'm confident they and others will adjust adroitly, in pointing you toward some excellent options.

P.S. Bring a hearty wool scarf.

Not sure what has been removed? Anyway I was not having a go about anything, similarity in weather that time of year means the OP knows what to expect and as I said if that's the only available time then welcome, come on over.

Taking what I said the wrong way might be fore warning that 2 nations separated by a common language might also be separated by turn of phrase as no offence was intended. Quite the opposite, it was empathy in respect of having to take dates that are available.

Heritage & Roots from which area? are you planning to get about or just perch in Dublin? If the latter trips will be limited out of season and I would advise against long trips to single venues especially those weather dependant ones like the Cliffs of Moher and Giants Causeway.

Looks like the OP may have had one of the "meltdowns" for which she's a bit famous on some other forums. Obviously up to everyone if they want to take time to offer advice, but based on other posts I seriously doubt there are even any plans in the works to visit Ireland.
