Restaurant suggestions please

We are visiting Dublin in September to celebrate a birthday. We'd like some recommendations for restaurants located centrally. There will be 16 of us, the wrong side of 40 (but still 25 in head!) and we'd like a place with good food and atmosphere. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Hi there,

I love two restuarants for group nights out. One is Brasserie Sixty Six. It's fairly new and I have been there about 4 times and each time there were a few minor teething problems but all in all good food, nice staff and good bustling atmosphere.

The second is a vietnamese restaurant called Ho Sen....food is amazing and staff are great. There's an upstairs that they usually put groups and they don't hurry you out the door. I'd eat there every night for the rest of my life if i could!

Otherwise this may be of use to you.

Brasserie Sixty6 is very trendy and takes bookings.

I have heard good reports about the Japanese Karaoke restaurant in town on Exchequer Street called Uki Yo restaurant. You get a private booth thing- apparently it is really fun for large parties.

Try Chameleon Indonesian Restaurant in Temple Bar too. They have an amazing private room upstairs for group parties, which would be perfect for 16 people.

Slightly more up market is Mermaid Cafe- they have a private dining room downstairs- food here is excellent.

Just in response to a recommendation - Brasserie66 - if I had a celebration night in Dublin I would not go here. The "teething problems" another poster mentioned seem to occur on every occasion, and should surely have been fixed by now (overcrowding, waiting long periods for a table, bill arriving before it is requested etc).

An Irish weblog attracted fierce criticism of service levels and attitude. When it opened the restaurant did get some positive reviews from professional food critics however.
