Suggestions for a day trip from Dublin

1 day, bus or train. Depart in early morning, return same night. Galway, Belfast, Cork? Thoughts?

What do you want to see an awful lot of travelling when what you want could be nearer home.

You can get to Belfast by train in just over two hours, so I think it is quite doable and the City is very walkable.

The first train is at 7.35 a.m. and the last one back leaves at 20.05, so you would have a full day to enjoy the City.

Part of the train journey is quite scenic, and it is one of my favourite train journeys in the country.

If you do decide to go, be sure to book online about 28 days in advance for much cheaper fares.

Yup, Belfast is nice, but I prefer Galway.

Just to continue turning this simple broth into a full blown Irish stew, there's always the incredible Glendalough and Wicklow Mountains combination within day trip reach as well.
