We are planning on flying in to Dublin on December 29th and will be staying in the city centre on NYE and NYD. Would like to spend the first 2 nights of our trip outside of the city. Therefore my questions are:
1) How is the transport situation in and around Dublin at this time of year? Would buses/trains be running on New Years Day in order to get us back to the airport for early evening on the 1st?
2) Would be grateful for suggestions of places to stay within a 30-60 minute train journey of Dublin. We are a couple in our mid 30s who enjoy eating out/pubs, good scenery/walks and would enjoy being near the coast. I have seen some suitable hotels in Dun Laoghaire, Malahide, Drogheda and Bray but I'm not sure if these areas are suitable for us?
3) What would be the approximate cost of travelling to the above areas by bus/train from Dublin? And is it worth purchasing tickets in advance?
4) When in Dublin we were thinking of staying in the Jury's Custom House Hotel. Is this well placed for exploring the city on foot?
Would be extremely grateful to anyone who could help with some or all of these queries. Many thanks in advance.
