Transport from Holyhead

Hi,

My daughter and I will ferry over from Dublin to Holyhead on 15th September 2014. Is there rail/bus to get us to London?

Yes, but you're best off buying the tickets together as it's so much cheaper.

See below for more details

Oops got cut off there.

Megabus are another option, they often have free ticket and £1 tickets available so might be worth keeping an eye on their site http://uk.megabus.com/Default.aspx the sail rail tickets are the same price so there's no real advantage in buying early.

Book your ticket straight through to London Euston Rail station. Using Rail and Sail quite a lot I recommend Stenaline.. The 8.20 sailing (at the port 40 mins before) gets into Euston @ 20 to 5 in the evening, change trains at Chester. There is a later train from Holyhead that get you there direct but not worth the hanging about..

will add that the rail journey along the North Coast of Wales is quite spectacular as it is just about on the beach, between the mountains and the sea, try to get a seat on the left.

Irish Rail also sell the SailRail tickets at Connolly Station in Dublin - from the ticket office windows - but they are not sold during the morning and evening peaks when the station is very busy. They do not charge any fees and will book you onto the ferry of your choice.

Buy up until the evening of the day before your sailing (if bought on the day of travel the fare is higher).

Nothing wrong with the coach option except it is a long journey from Holyhead to London - about 7 hours. The fastest trains do Holyhead to London (Euston) in around 3 hrs. 40 mins - much faster than the car journey time.

If you are travelling around Ireland and are visiting somewhere outside of Dublin immediately before London, it may be worth considering a SailRail ticket from that place to London (via Dublin) as it quite possibly will save several Euro e.g. Athlone to London/ Cork to London etc...

Hope this might help. Have a nice stay.
