Car Rental from Dublin to Belfast

I am new to Ireland. Can I easily rent a car in Dublin and drive it to Belfast and stay overnight in Belfast? My intention is to rent the car in Dublin and drop it off in Belfast.

Is this doable?

Its doable, but as far as i know, will cost you a fortune. Belfast is in another jurisdiction as so will incur penalties for your car hire company to collect from a "foreign country". I'm open to correction on this. There are some other members here who will have more detailed knowledge on this matter

If all you want to do is get to Belfast, use the train or a coach. There is no problem hiring a car and driving it all over Ireland but you have to leave it in the same country you picked it up.
