Restaurants between Dublin and Galway

We arrive in Dublin at 11 am August 16, 2014 and will then drive to Galway. Any suggestions for a restaurant for lunch on the drive from Dublin to Galway?

To get to a restaurant, you will have to come off the motorway ( assuming you are going that way), to find one. I can't think of any off the top of my head. I'll get back to you with a few suggestions.

Not in particular, however Athlone is 1/2 way and just off the motorway. You can easily find several eateries along the Shannon waterfront for a nice lunch with a fine view.

Safe Journeys,

Sunny

I enjoyed Thyme in Athlone, but be aware that you will have to pay for parking in Athlone town centre.

The Fatted Calf in Glasson ( about a 5 minute drive from Athlone, has won several awards for its food. There is also a place across the road called Grogan's ( I think) where the food is also good but the service doesn't match the food.

Kinnegad used to be popular before the motorway by-passed it

The 2 main places in Kinnegad for meals have closed afaik, Harry's and I cant remember the name of the other one. The Applegreen service area has a Burger King and a Costa Coffee

There is a hotel on the outskirts of Athlone called the Creggan Court, it has a bar and restaurant open to the public: http://www.creggancourt.com/

It is easily accessed off the motorway and you don't have to go into the town of Athlone. I have not eaten there but it seems like a viable option.

dokgolf - I think you may have been thinking of Jack's? Rather proud of myself for remembering it as I haven't been through Kinnegad for about 30 years!!!
