13 Hours in Galway

We will be arriving in Galway around 11:00(am) after driving from Dublin and will be leaving again the next morning.

Our current plan is to drive up into Connemara to Kylemore Abbey and back making a loop. This should give us just enough time to spend about 2 hours on foot either at the abbey or somewhere else up there and time to make it back by around 19:00 (7:00pm) for dinner and pub's.

Advice on this plan... good idea, bad idea, better idea's?

That would seem feasible. It will take you about 1hr 45min to drive from Galway to Kylemore Abbey via N59 and then turn off in Recess for the Inagh Valley Road, which is the most scenic road in Connemara in my opinion. There are a number of walks around Kylemore Abbey or Letterfrack village. Return either via Clifden or Leenane/Maam will take about 2hr 30min

ganboy1,

I'm having trouble locating the route your referenced "then turn off in Recess for the Inagh Valley Road"... can you elaborate more. I don't want to miss it the way you described it.

Connemara and Kylemore, drive to Clifden on the N59. follow that same road (after taking the Sky Rd short version and Clifden Castle you have asked about. you will pass Kylemore abbey before Leenanne wher you can then decide to go back via Cong or drop back to Maam Cross and the N59.. http://goo.gl/Ek8bpw & http://goo.gl/maps/L5ihu give places you don't have time for but a bit of detail. http://goo.gl/maps/ywhwa might be the route I would take? http://goo.gl/maps/QehFu is an alternative
