Galway Oyster Festival 2014

My husband and I are planning on going to the Galway Oyster Festival in September 2014. We will be purchasing tickets for Friday evening and Saturday, but not for the Masquerade. How strict is the dress code for Saturday. We will be traveling around Ireland for 2 weeks and would prefer not to pack a dress or a jacket. Would slacks, blouse, button down and a tie suffice?

In Galway dress how you feel comfortable - anything goes! The Saturday event ranges from smart casual to more dressy! Some men wear suits, others jackets & jeans/pants. Ladies dresses or pants. There's dancing eating and drinking so whatever takes your fancy!

Enjoy!

Dear Tripadvisor member, I am planning to go to the Oyster Festival this year. Did you go and how was is? I've seen some criticism of the event here on Tripadvisor. How did you find it?

Thank you for any information you can provide.

Hello, we went to the Oyster Festival, but did not buy tickets to the events. There was entertainment in the streets and oyster vendor carts (one had a lighted candelabra). We felt that we were able to partake without spending a lot of Euros. The dinners, cocktails, etc were in a tented area and seemed a bit crowded. We do not feel like we missed out on anything.

We're planning to visit the Galway area, but am wondering if Galway gets overrun by crowds or obnoxious excessive drinking during the the Oyster Festival. We will be just arriving in from Dublin airport with our US college kid from Dublin.

@barblex897

You'll be fine, a lot of the activities happen on the streets with the main events in the tented areas which do charge. Compared to Race Week in July/August, the Oyster Festival is a tame event! Galway is a great place to visit any time of year and was recently named:

If it gets too hectic spend a day out in Connemara or over in The Burren or a day out to one of the islands.

Welcome to Galway
