Best Pub Grub, Guinness, & Music

Hi, We are a couple in our 40's going to Galway for 2 nights at the end of June. Staying in the Park House Hotel, and eating in it's restaurant on the Saturday night. I'm looking to have somewhere planned to go on the Friday night and would welcome any recommendations. We want to have a few drinks, then a good quality "pub grub" type meal and then maybe listen to some traditional irish music and a few more bevvies before going back to the Park House Hotel. If one place covers all these requests then that's great, or we can visit various places to get the best of each. Cheers.

The best 'pub food' in Galway is in Eat@Massimo, you have The Crane a couple of doors down for great live music and good Guinness. They are a 15-20 minute walk from Park House, on William St West. Its the alternative nightlife area where good restaurants and pubs abound. If its run of the mill pub grub then The Front Door, Dail bar, Buskers, Kings Head and Quays all do it and are all in the main nightlife area of Cross St, Quay St and High St. Tigh Coili and Taaffes are nearby for music.

The Hotel is really nice, great, traditional Irish (and some foreign) hospitality. You'll enjoy the food too!

The location is great with so many bars close by, that you may not just want to stay in one place, very often we do our "own pub crawl" when visiting Galway.

I would second Rojo81's suggestion for Eat@Massimo's and The Crane pub is renowned for "proper Trad music". If you want to stroll nearer to your hotel, the pedestrianised area of Shop/Quay St. has a plethora of good pubs with all kinds of music. Ti Coili would have trad music (http://www.pubsdirect.ie/tigcoili) and for good Guinness, try Ti Neachtain's ( Pronounced Chee Nachthawns ) 2 minutes away.

Thanks for your replies.

If we didn't want to walk far, what pub grub type restaurants would you rate the best that are in the center close(ish) to the Park House Hotel and local pubs?

The Cellar is the best in terms of food/value for money in my opinion, the rest i mentioned above are all fine too and no more than a ten min walk.

Blakes bar on Eglington street (less 5 min walk from Park House) has very good pub grub as has a lovely restaurant next door so same kitchen. They sometimes have music there but usual sing along not traditional. For Trad music Ti Coili or Taaffes on Shop Strret or bit futher The Crane
