Bakeries and Breakfasts in Galway

I will be in Galway at the end of May for 4 nights. Looking for recommendations for good bakeries and good places for breakfast (I'm more of a pancake/waffle type person). I will be staying on Griffin Road.

Thanks!

This place is an institution in Galway

The one on Francis Street is handily placed in the centre of town

I make that an institution in Clare, dokgolf:-)

But an Ennis bakery will quite gladly supply Galway too!!

Griffin's on Shop Street is quite a nice bakery too and they have tea rooms in the back of the shop.

If you fancy a nice tart/cake we loving Galway Tart Co, there's a couple in the city and another at Salthill.

Id consider both Griffins and O'Connors to be overpriced old fashioned bland Irish bakeries/cafes.

Try Le Petit Delice on Mainguard St for great French breads and a great range of quality Frenchpatisserie. Waffles and pancakes arent widely found here. Theres a new cafe on Augustine St called Cosmo which seems good and has a very European/modern offering. Javas on Abbeygate St do good French breakfast options and coffee too.

I agree with rojo - O'Connors is a pretty standard Irish bakery - there are definelty much nicer places to go to and the service in Griffens tea rooms is woeful - very very slow and you have to repeatedly ask for things.

Corrib House tea rooms is a lovely place overlooking the weir - http://www.corribhouse.com

If you really want waffles / pancakes try Mr Waffle just opposite the hosptial - http://www.mrwaffle.ie

Agree with Worldwiser on Corrib Tea Rooms, always hear good things and a nice quieter location.

Would a visitor not come to Ireland for an Irish bakery rather than a French one??
