Skelligs with a 3 year old and a 7 year old

We really want to go to Skellig Michael while we are in Kenmare in June this year. We have a 3 year old, who we are planning to put in a backpack carrier (and I read a post on tripadvisor from someone who did it that it worked well). Anyone taken a 7 year old to Skellig Michael? Any thoughts? Thanks!

I am certain it has been done before, but I would be very nervous with a three year old on a backpack especially when entering/exiting the ferry at Skellig. The 7 year old will have no trouble with adult help.

The boatmen are VERY experienced in embarking/disembarking passenger.

The hike from the landing spot to the top is about 40- 50 minutes. The steps are rough and some at the beginning are quite high. you need to ensure that the 7 year old walks by your side at all times. While i don't consider it dangerous, you do need watch your step and don't let 7 year old wander ahead.

If 7 year old has an adventurous spirit - s/he will love the trip. The puffins will still be there and they are fascinating to watch.

There have been two fatalities from falls in recent years that I can recall, therefore care is needed.

Personally, I would not consider it with a 3 year old and a 7 year old.

Be a non starter for me as well. Bryno is a keen walker as I was until recently and in that mindset the Skelligs feel easier than they are in reality.

Not for me either, wouldn't risk it under any circumstances with children.

If you'd like to go, fine. But please leave the children back in Kenmare with your wife.

When I read this query i got a shiver down my spine at the thought of a three and seven year old on those steps.
