Tralee to Listowel

We're traveling to the Listowel Writers Week festival in late May/early June of 2013. It seems like there are few hotels in Listowel (Listowel Arms looks lovely, but is a bit out of our budget). We're thinking of staying in Tralee and have read that there is an hourly bus between the two. We won't have a car, so we'll need to rely on public transport. (I realize a car might be preferable, but this is University-sponsored travel, and my institution will not allow me to drive students anywhere abroad.)

Any suggestions you have are welcomed!

Tralee is only 30mins from Listowel and between bus routes 272 and 13 the service is quite good

There's not exactly an hourly bus between the two, but there is a frequent bus service that will have suitable times for you.

The journey is 17 miles and will take 40 mins.

Tralee would work for you, depending on how many trips you need to make to Listowel during your holiday here.

The only other thing you need to check is how much the return cost will be for you and your students. They will need to know this for budgeting purposes.

I got these costs for travel between Tralee and Listowel on the Bus Eireann website, but not sure how accurate they are. However they should be not much more than what is quoted. The prices are in Euro.

8.50 : Adult Single

13.70 : Adult Rtn

11.60 : Adult Day Rtn

5.20 : Child Single

9.00 : Child Return

7.10 : Child Day Rtn

6.70 : Student Single

10.50 : Student Rtn

34.50 : Family Rtn

51.00 : Adult 10 Journey

44.50 : Student 10 Journey

I am not certain if overseas students get the 'Student' rate but I am guessing that they will. They will have to produce student identity, such as their school/college i.d. card.

Writers' Week is an amazing experience, I attend regularly. The office staff are very helpful and there is advice available to find a place to stay. The last bus leaves Listowel around 11 pm and things are still fairly lively at that time! Send your requirements to info@writersweek.ie and see if they can offer any suggestions.

Its about 9 years ago we were looking at a couple of houses outside Listowel and stayed in Abbeyfeale at Leen's hotel http://www.leens-hotel.com/

Listowel is a great Heritage town well up on the list of small towns in Kerry. http://www.listowel365.com/

Thanks, All. There are four of us total--three students and me. We'd consider a B&B, though the students have voiced a preference for a hotel. I was just looking at Tralee Town Center Apartments, which would allow us all to stay in one apartment instead of three hotel rooms.

Thanks for the links. I'll check them all out.
