Public Transportation in Kilkenny

Hello,

I was wondering what the public transportation is like in Kilkenny. We are trying to limit the driving we do in our stay in Ireland, and was wondering if the different areas Kilkenny county were fairly accessible by public transportation for purposes of visiting site attractions...or would you recommend driving in that area. Thank you!

I''m not very familiar with Kilkenny, but I can't imagine that there would be an adequate public transport service, that would be of benefit to you.

I think a car would be your best option.

City is small enough to walk, for most of the county you would need a car.

There is also the option of an organized Day Tour out of Kilkenny. Even if such a tour doesn't appeal to you, it's a handy way of checking out what there is to see within Co. Kilkenny and in surrounding counties:

You can get to Thomastown easily enough train. The same train will bring you to Waterford. There is a Buseireann and JJ Kavanagh service also to Castlecomer (for the discovery park) and Callan. But apart from that regular scheduled public transport is quite limited. Many of the villages such as Gowran, Inistioge and Graiguenamanagh are served by local private buses such as Kilbride coachs.

For getting around the town of Kilkenny it is best to walk. Everything is very compact. There are plenty of taxis if needed.
