Castle Stay

Which castle would you pick for an overnight stay for a 30th wedding anniversary?

Ashford or Dromoland.

We will be touring the southwest area after landing in Shannon.

We will depart from Dublin and thought about one night at the Clontarf as well.

If you are touring the South West after landing in Shannon, then Dromoland would be the obvious choice. Its only about 15 minutes or so from the airport.

Waterford Castle is another castle to consider, particularly if you were considering taking a southern route to Dublin http://www.waterfordcastle.com/accommodation/

I haven't stayed at either, but I would pick Dromoland - it tends to get better reviews. As Bean noted, its location more convenient for your itinerary.

Any info on the Ballynahinch Castle?

We want to head to the Kylemore Abbey and that

isn't too far off the route. Probably spend 2 days in the area.

Ballynahinch is lovely, it's a bit like visiting some-one's country house, the furniture might be a little scuffed (but certainly not tatty in any way) like a proper lived-in home. The welcome is super and the rooms lovely.

Staff are excellent and location lovely. I'd stay there before any of the other two (which aren't castles either, by the way)
