A re-visit to Lissadell House

Yesterday we went back to Lissadell, first time since it re-opened to visitors after it's unforeseen closure which lasted for five years. Lissadell never looses it's charm and is one of Irelands great houses with a history to match, it almost felt like we had come home. A walk through the magnificent alpine gardens as if time had stood still, followed by tea and home made apple pie in the converted coach-house restaurant served up to us by the very pleasant owner himself.

We recommend everyone a visit to Lissadell when touring the Sligo/Donegal region.

When I was at Lissadell House a few years ago I thought it was the most depressing place I had ever been at. Just couldn't see how anybody would want to live in that sad looking house. Maybe it's different now.

There were no problems with access to the grounds and beach then.

Clauds, there still is no problem with access to the grounds and the beach. The problems arose over people trying to take advantage over what is a private estate, whereby it is easy to see which roads are private and best maintained and those nearby owned by the council which are not maintained.
